The Maison

About the Maison
Originally a farmhouse, this a typical Bigordane house with a half hip roof (against snow and wind) and a balcony. It has been extended and improved over the years – most recently with the introduction of the vast kitchen/dining area. It is spacious but still cosy and welcoming. With 1 metre thick walls, you are assured of warmth in winter and blessed cool in summer.

Sitting room.
No mountain house is complete without a huge roaring fire. We are no exception – maybe you can even have a go at making the local tradition of Gateau a La Broche! In summer – throw open the French windows and breathe in the smell of roses and cut grass!

 Reading room
This ‘play’ room is packed with things to enjoy for a lazy day. Browse our wide selection of books in a number of languages – novels or many reference books about the area. Have a go on the playstation or perhaps watch French or British T.V. or a good film. Then again – you could catch up with your emails using our free WIFI.   Last but not least are the various games you can play to while away a rainy afternoon! All in all, it is a difficult room to leave.

Dining room
This huge room is reminiscent of the Mediterranean with its terracotta and biscuit walls and a huge dining table. Opening out onto the patio, you will spend many a happy hour here or in the garden in summer eating, drinking and chatting!  The open plan kitchen gives you the opportunity to watch our local produce and dishes being prepared and if you are lucky, you might get a recipe or two to take home!

Drying room
Off the dining room is our dedicated drying room for skis/snowboards in winter or walking clothes for a wet summer’s day!

All rooms come complete with bedding and towels. Slippers are provided when you arrive and we have all the usual appliances for you to use: hairdryers, irons etc. Just ask!
We also have a cot and extra bed for young children.
Rooms can be booked individually if you are happy to share shower facilities with one other room.
Read our rooms page for details of each individual room.

The French windows in both sitting room and dining room open onto a shady patio area. There are hammocks and loungers for the summer.  The garden is full of flowers in the summer with a pretty stream at the bottom for paddling or maybe catching a trout!

Surrounding the house is our meadow for strolling, lazing, playing La Boule or admiring the wonderful wild flowers in spring.

There is also plenty of space for parking your vehicles safely.

As we are next to a road which although empty at night, it can be busy during the day. There is also a stream at the bottom of the garden. We secure both these areas but you should be aware of these if you have young children.

It is important to us that you feel at home and enjoy your stay so we ask you to keep dogs on leads and smoke only on the balcony or outside. We also ask that you keep noise to a minimum at night and wear soft shoes in the house as all upper floors are floorboards.

Thank you!
